get social and spicy
There’s no better way to meet new people than through some friendly competition. The Out and Out Club Toronto encourages members to get active through activities like kayaking, cycling, skiing and even something as simple as Scrabble or sushi-making workshops. One of the oldest, largest LGBT activities clubs, the Toronto chapter boasts more than 650 members — probably, in part, because the membership fee remains affordable. Spice it up
You know fall is on its way when pumpkin spice flavoured things start popping up. With our no-go summer, then, it should come as no surprise that Starbucks brought its popular Pumpkin Spice Lattes back this year, just a little bit early. To help usher in the deliciousness, the corporate entity launched a social media campaign – giving the PSL (as the latte junkies call it) its own Twitter account. If you’re a fan, follow along at @TheRealPSL and get updates on your fave fall beverage.
Have some old, outdated technology laying around? Perhaps a laptop, tablet or smartphone you no longer have a need for. Don’t just toss it out, pay it forward. Human-I-T has teamed up with Straight But Not Narrow and The Trevor Project to take donated technology and have it make a positive impact in the LGBTQ community. The US-based organization will collect and refurbish donated devices, before distributing them to LGBTQ youth living in rural areas or those living in low-income households to help them find their own community. For more information or to donate, visit www.human-i-t.org/ally.
The Toronto International Film Festival returns to Toronto Sept. 4-14, with 10 days of amazing programming, bringing along with it some of the film industry’s top stars. There are plenty of hot films worth checking out, like Pride. Set in 1984 Britain, it follows a band of activists from London’s queer community as they form an alliance with striking Welsh miners to comedic and inspirational effect. Full scheduling is available online at www.tiff.net.
