Summer brings out the best in all of us, outdoor patios are now open, wine and culinary festivals abound and Pride events all over the country and around the world are underway.

There is one Pride event in Thousand Islands, Ontario that is a must see “Summer Solstice” in late June. This year the pride parade will be a flotilla – one of only two water parades in the world, what an event this is going to be!

Over the past six months, being gay has been creating high visibility in headlines around the world: national basketball star Jason Collins announces he is gay, a first in the NBA and he joins a few other professional sports players in various sports to come out over the past few years. New York State and Colorado legalize same sex marriage followed recently by France. These are huge accomplishments for our community. Globally we still have a long way to go but if we continue to move forward and upward it can only get better.

This issue is crammed with unique and interesting stories from Peter Hinton a member of the order of Canada who is directing “Lady Windermere’s Fan” at the Shaw Festival. You may be thinking of some different travel experiences such as the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia or of traveling to Gay Cambodia with a Vietnam River Cruise.

OUTVisions second contest kicks off summer with a wine and cultural package in Niagara on the Lake – you can enter by going to www.outvisions.com.

See you in the fall our cover feature will be the infamous Barb Snelgrove an LGBT advocate from British Columbia.

Have fun this summer be safe, healthy and happy and don’t forget to take OUTVisions magazine with you when you take some time for R&R.
