A Composer’s Life
Learn about the life and music of one of Canada’s few internationally renowned classical composers, Claude Vivier, in a new biography from Irish musicologist Bob Gilmore. Claude Vivier: A Composer’s Life delves deep into the narrative of the French-Canadian composer’s life, exploring not just what kind of man he was, but what kind of artist he was as well. In some circles, Vivier is best known not for his music, but for the tragic way in which he died — murdered by a man he invited to his apartment after meeting at a gay bar. This biography puts the focus back where it belongs: on Vivier.
Wine & Yoga
Find nirvana on the yoga mat – if not through exercise, maybe with the glass of wine that follows. Plenty of wineries have climbed on board the trend of offering wine tastings alongside yoga classes; what could be more relaxing than doing mindful exercises in a vineyard or barrel room? Some are summer-only affairs while others, like Ganga Moon Yoga at Rosewood Estates Winery in Beamsville, offer the program year-round. While you’re there, check out the mead and honey made onsite by the winery owners, who are third generation beekeepers. www.rosewoodwine.com
