Yvonne Rainer, a revolutionary in the worlds of both modern dance and film, is the subject of Feelings are Facts, a documentary telling the story of her life. Melding film clips and reinterpretations of her choreographies, this documentary offers an intimate look at the 80-year-old artist who came out as a lesbian at the age of 56. Directed by Jack Walsh.
After gaining popularity through its Instagram account of the same name, Lesbian Emojis are now a reality. Created by Kim Linn and Katie Streeter, the Lesbian Emojis app is available through iTunes, allowing you to send a wide variety of lesbian-centric graphics, from fish tacos and rainbow cakes to Mrs & Mrs wedding couples and L Word dvds. The selection even includes pop culture references new and old, like Ellen Page as Juno and Denise Richards and Neve Campbell’s scene from Wild Things. The emojis make texting fun again.
If you’re in the mood to travel, consider making the trip down to Palm Springs and swing by The Dinah, billed as the largest lesbian event in the world. The iconic all-girl party is celebrating 25 years in 2015 and will feature Meghan Trainor, Christina Perri, Crystal Waters and Rose Royce – to name just a few. The original Dinah Shore Weekend takes place April 1 to 15. Full details at www.thedinah.com.
Her debut album We Loved Her Dearly dropped in September, but with gigs at major summer festivals like July’s WayHome in Oro-Medonte Lowell’s star is definitely on the rise. The openly bisexual musician takes an advocate’s approach to songwriting, with issues ranging from feminism and the politics of being a stripper, to her anthem LGBT that calls for everyone to equate L-G-B-T with L-O-V-E. Now that’s a message we can all get behind.
